Radio Africa Group is among the teams expected to feature in the 7th edition of the Standard Chartered Cup tournament.

The exciting five-a-side futsal tournament is celebrating the bank’s partnership with Liverpool FC and is offering the winning team an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Anfield Stadium in England.

The winning side will attend a live Premier League match at Anfield and participate in a training session at the Liverpool FC Academy to be graced by a club’s legend.

This year’s tournament will take place on November 30 at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies grounds in Nairobi.

Amateur teams of seven players each will compete for the ultimate prize.

Head of corporate affairs, brand and marketing for Kenya and Africa, Joyce Kibe said:

“I am extremely proud of our partnership with Liverpool FC, who enables us to work together to create and deliver unique, money-can’t-buy experiences such as this.”

Letshego won the 2019 edition after beating Capital FM 3-2 in a post-match penalties shoot-out at St. Austin’s School.

However, they never defended their title as the 2020 event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s event will see 40 clients’ teams battle for top honours and Standard Chartered Bank has appealed to all invited corporations to register by tomorrow.

The exercise will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tournament format will feature group-stage games that will be run on a round-robin basis with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout rounds.

Apart from Radio Africa, other favourites will be Nation Media Group, Delloite and Letshego.

Lotan Salapei of Radio Africa Group said they will train hard to ensure they grab the ticket to Anfield.

“We expect tough opposition from all teams but we have to train well for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after falling in the quarters in the 2019 edition,” the Homeboyz Radio presenter said.
