Trans Nzoia County is experiencing a resurgence of football fever, with an impressive 60 men's and 18 women's teams preparing for a fierce matchup in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) league that kicks off this weekend.
The redesigned league is divided into five zones: Kwanza, Endebess, Saboti, Cherangany, and Kiminini.
Trans Nzoia FKF County Branch League chairman Isaac Munene said the league will return with a brand-new and exciting format. He commended football fraternities for their cooperation in signing up and playing in the league.
"I wish to urge businesses and companies in Trans Nzoia to sponsor and support both the boys' and girls' teams. These leagues play a big role in developing talent," he said.
Several of the league's best men's teams, including St Joseph's Boys (Jobo), Goseta Boys (Posterity), and St Anthony's Boys (Solidarity Boys), are returning to competitive football after a lengthy break.
The women's league will feature two of the best teams to watch: the Wiyeta Girls (Sinyereri Queens) and St Joseph's Girls (the Royal Queen's), who promise exciting competition in the quest for glory.
Many have praised Munene's attempts to reform the league format, which were aided by former Kenya Premier League chairman Jack Oguda as one of the organisers.
The league will formally debut on January 26 at the Ndura Sports Complex, featuring a number of thrilling games scheduled. Prior to the highly anticipated matchup between St Anthony's Boys and Youngstars later in the day, Tuwan FC will play Mathare FC in the curtain-raiser at 11:00 AM.
St. Joseph's Boys will then take the field at 2:00 PM. The league is expected to be a spectacle for football fans during its seven-month run. In addition to competing for honors, players and teams will also vie for a Sh300,000 cash prize and other prizes for the season's winners.
Football fans can look forward to thrilling moments as the competition becomes a stepping stone for young players to shine on the national and global stage.
