Ulinzi Starlets and Kenya Police Bullets FC will use the two-week FKF Women’s Premier League (WPL) break to fine-tune their squads as the battle for the Women’s Premier League title hots up.

The sides drew 1-1 at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday to remain in contention.

Bullets lead the standings with 29 points while Starlets are fourth, six points adrift.

Starlets head coach Collins Oduor, whose team has been unbeaten since he took over in December, is keen on defensive improvements.

“I was hoping for a win but am content with the draw,” he said.

“The pressure was immense but we handled it well. We will refine our defence and maintain our momentum.”

Oduor emphasised the importance of player development, urging WPL coaches to nurture talent for longterm success. Bullets’ assistant coach Lawrence Suji rued two dropped points.

“We wanted three points but a draw away from home is acceptable. This break is crucial for integrating new signings and preparing for the season’s second half,” he said.

“Our focus remains performance rather than looking over our shoulders in the title race.”

Forward Fasila “Kamama” Adhiambo acknowledged the need for Ulinzi to solidify their midfield and defence.

“We’ve never beaten Kenya Police Bullets, so we really wanted the win. The break gives us a chance to refresh,” she said.

The break paves way for the national team, Harambee Starlets preparations for a two-legged Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tunisia.

The first leg is set for February 21 in Nairobi and the second in Tunis on February 25.

Ulinzi Starlets and Bullets have contributed players to the national set-up. Ulinzi have midfielders Tabitha Amoit, Sheril Angachi, Fasila Adhiambo and Lavender Ann Akinyi while Bullets have defender Elizabeth Ochaka and defenders Rebecca Okwaro and Emily Moranga.
