Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has urged his players to stay calm as they prepare for their next crucial top-of-the-table Kenyan Premier League match against record champions Gor Mahia.
The two local behemoths will settle scores in the highlyanticipated clash of the Titans at Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday.
Okere urged his strikers to put on a strong show when they play K’Ogalo this weekend, following a goal-less draw with Police FC at the same location last weekend.
“We have been getting off to a great start in the first half, creating a lot of chances, but we struggle in front of the opponent’s goal,” Okere remarked.
“The problem is lack of poise and we are unable to complete the opportunities that we have established. We must put more effort into this area if we want to win such close, strategic games.”
The coach emphasised how crucial it is to maintain composure when in a scoring position. It all boils down to maintaining your cool.
The players now know their tactical roles and where to stand on the field, but even the best chances will be lost if they lack composure and poise in front of the goal. We must exercise greater clinical judgment.”
Notwithstanding, Okere thinks his talented team has certain advantages.
The team’s ongoing defensive stability is one of the most notable features; keeping a clean sheet for three straight games is a noteworthy accomplishment.
Although Tusker’s defensive problems were a big worry at the start of the season, they have now kept four clean sheets in their last six games.
“As a team, we have made tremendous strides in defence, Okere said.
Additionally, I would like to draw attention to Alex Onchwari, who only made his second appearance for the team.
He gave the defence a great deal of confidence by displaying amazing maturity and authority at the back.
This serves as a reminder to all of the players that they need to take advantage of every chance they get.’ Even though the team has had trouble scoring in their last two games, Okere is still optimistic things will get better.
“No pressure exists. We will keep improving with every game and we are taking each one as it comes. In our next game, I think we will resume our winning ways because we have the quality,” he said.
