The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has postponed the much-awaited match between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards (Mashemeji derby).

According to FKF, this was due to a lack of a venue for the match that was scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025.

“Football Kenya Federation (FKF) regrets to announce the postponement of the highly anticipated FKF Premier League fixture between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, originally scheduled for Sunday,” FKF president Hussein Mohammed said.

“The decision follows the inability of the designated home team to secure a suitable venue for the match.”

Hussein explained that Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani where the derbies have previously been held are currently unavailable for use.

He said that the two stadiums are undergoing renovation in preparation to host the CHAN.

The FKF boss, however, noted that they are currently working to secure another venue and a new date will be announced soon.

“Nyayo National Stadium and MISC Kasarani, the primary venues for such high-profile fixtures, remain unavailable due to ongoing renovations in preparation for the CHAN tournament set for August.

“We know this is disappointing for the fans, players, and everyone who had been looking forward to the match, but we are working to ensure it is played under the right conditions. A new date for the match will be communicated in due course. We appreciate your patience and understanding.”

The match was initially slated for November 24 last year but couldn’t kick off due to a lack of suitable venue.

The fixture has previously seen the 30,000-seater stadium Nyayo National Stadium fill to the rafters.

New Gor Mahia tactician Sinisa Mihic and his Leopards counterpart Fred Ambani will both be in charge of the derby for the first time, with three points, pride, and bragging rights at stake.
