Ongalo lifts the Phillip Machuki golf tournament in Kisii

A total of 51 golfers and 10 juniors took part in the tournament.

 Sophie Ongalo floored 51 golfers to win the Phillip Machuki golf tournament held at the Kisii Golf Course on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 36, Ongalo garnered 39 points to lift the title during the tournament which was sponsored by Kisii County Assembly speaker Phillip Machuki.

“I started off badly in hole number one but I did well as the game progressed. I also had a good flight and a cheerleader,” she said.

James Onchwari was the first runner-up with 37 points while Adrian Monari was the second runner-up with 37 points.

Elizabeth Mose was the ladies' winner with 35 points while Kisii golf club vice-captain George Mainye bagged the first nine title with 20 points.

Former Kisii Sports Club chairman, Andrew Kombo, won the second nine with 21 points.

Mainye also won the longest drive trophy in the men's category while Elizabeth Mose won the ladies' title. 

J.B. Onyambu clinched the nearest to the pin title while the best effort award went to Jacky Walimbwa. Vivianne Wangeci and Wyne Otieno were declared winners in the juniors category.

A total of 51 golfers and 10 juniors took part in the tournament. Machuki announced that the tournament will be held annually in the first week of June.

 “I want to announce here today that this will be an annual tournament,” said the speaker. The club’s captain Jared Mogeni said several tournaments are lined up next month. On July 2, club trustee John Kumenda will sponsor his annual tournament while the Law Society of Kenya tournament will be held on July 21. The club’s secretary Lawrence Nyangena will sponsor a tournament on September 3.
