Kenyans Mercy Nyabende Nyanchama and Ashley Awuor were top Kenyans at the Uganda Ladies Open at par 72 Uganda Golf Club as Peace Kabasweka dominated home tournament.
The three-day 54-hole tournament, which attracted 42 top golfers from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, proved tough for Kenyan players.
Nyanchama of Vet Lab and Royal Club’s Awuor fired a total of +13 229 each with another Kenyan, Margaret Njoki, finishing 10th with +25 241.
With a 2 over par score of 74 on Day One on Thursday, Awuor was the top Kenyan while Nyanchama tied with Njoki at +6 78 but Round Two on Friday proved to be difficult for Awuor and Njoki, who had +4 and +8 of 76 and 80 respectively against Nyanchama’s +3 75.
On Saturday, Nyanchama played +4 70 while Awuor and Njoki managed +7 79 and +11 83.
Kabasweka won her first Uganda Open title after edging out Iddi Madina Hussein from Tanzania.
Enjoying home advantage and the fans' backing, Kabasweka completed the tournament with five over par 221 with a score of four under par 68 in round one, dropped to three over par 75 in the second and six over par 78 in the third and final round.
