Burundi's Kangana only foreign female player at Ruiru Open

Kangana, from Bujumbura Golf Club, will be up against six Kenyan women in the hunt for the title, which has been dominated by men.

Burundi international Sandra Kangana will be the only foreign female player at the Ruiru Open when the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series resumes this weekend.

Kangana, from Bujumbura Golf Club, will be up against six Kenyan women in the hunt for the title, which has been dominated by men.

She will tee off in the last group at 1:20 pm alongside Kenyans Collins Too and home player Githinji Muchiri.

Other women players in the tournament are Joyce Wanjiru from Kiambu, Kellie Gachaga, sisters Bianca and Brianna Ngecu of Muthaiga, Eldoret chairman Esther Chumo and Diana Mbuba of Royal Nairobi Club.

Kangana is in Kenya alongside compatriots Saidi Toyi, Abdoul Rokundo, Salum Hakizimana, Abdoul Bizimana and Salum Nkurunzinza.

Other foreign players are Ugandans Joseph Kasozi and Andrew Ssekibejja Rwanda’s Didas Ndindabihizi and Felix Dusabe and India’s Thacker Mitansh and Kushagra Sharma.

He will be in the company of Eliakim Maina, Bernard Omondi, Chris Andrea, Frank Munyuah, Githinji Muchiri and Patrick Theche.

Other players from the club are James Mureithi, N. Nguithi, Telvin Thuku, John Njenga, Samuel Njuguna, Elisa Kariuki and Alex Ngugi.

Champion Adel Balala from Vipingo Ridge will hope to retain his title. He fired one under par 218 to win the tournament. He targets back-to-back wins after winning the  Muthaiga Open on March 10.

Other players to watch are series leader Elvis Muigua from Kiambu Club, second-placed John Lejirma — the Team Kenya captain from Kenya Railways — and KAGC champion Michael Karanga.
