Kabras coach Felix Ayanage will be without five of his star players for the final two legs of the National Sevens circuit slated for Eldoret and Nairobi.

The sugarmillers will be without Brian Tanga, Jone Kubu, Kevin Wekesa, Lamech Ambetsa and William Muhanji, who are with the Shujaa training squad preparing for the Africa Sevens cum-Olympic-qualifiers in Zimbabwe next month.

The Kakamega-based side lead the log with 80 points, two ahead of rivals KCB, and Ayange believes the side have what it takes to win the overall crown.

"We will be without a good number of our players but we were prepared for this eventuality. One way or another, it was going to happen. We live by it and prepare for the final two legs with the aim of getting maximum points,” added Ayange.

Ayange likened the scenario the team is facing to when they had to head for the Enterprise Cup without 15 players earlier in the season. The players were engaged with the Simbas but Kabras still went on to beat  KCB 30-27 in the final.

The tactician will rely on the likes of skipper Paul Abuto, Bryceson Adaka, Derrick Ashiundu, Alfred Orege and Dan Angwech as they target a first national Sevens title since 2017.

The former international, who turned out for Quins, said the two-week break has helped them address the weaknesses that saw them drop points after finishing third at the Christie Sevens, beating Nakuru 19-12.

"Our work at the breakdown was poor. We have to be more efficient in the cleanout and ensure we don't get penalised by the referee," said Ayange.

"Our attack looked disjointed but we are working on it. We have three more sessions before the tournament and I believe we will be sharp come the tournament.”

Ayange said the side can cope with the pressure after seeing their lead trimmed.

"The boys are unfazed. They know what to do. We will take it one game at a time and control whatever we can," added Ayange.

The leaders face Quins, Daystar Falcons and Kisumu RFC in Pool 'C', which Ayange termed as tough.
