USIU-A back to drawing board after fourth consecutive loss

After suffering a fourth consecutive loss in the Kenya Rugby Union Championship, United States International University Africa (USIU-A) coach Tom Lagat is back to the drawing board.

The Martials lost 20-5 to Mombasa on Saturday to leave Lagat ruing their missed chances.

“We lost so many chances, our strike rate is low. We have a lot of work to do in the upcoming games,” said a disappointed Lagat.

He admitted he faces a Herculean task to save their season. With five matches to go, USIU-A sit bottom of the log without a point.

Meanwhile, South Coast Pirates still lead the table with 23 despite suffering their first loss of the season — 27-18 against Daystar Falcons in Athi River.

Impala kept their second spot with 23 points despite a 27-7 loss to Masinde Murilo University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in Kakamega. MMUST moved to third on the log with 20 points.

MMUST coach John Asila said: “I’m happy we won against a very strong side. Winning with a bonus point against an experienced Impala was not easy. The boys gave their best.”

University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine recorded their first win of the season after edging Kabarak University 12-0 while Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) defeated the University of Eldoret’s Trojans 33-3 in Juja.

Meanwhile, Rongo University started their Women’s Kenya Cup campaign with a 27-14 win over Maseno University.

“Our opponents were bigger than us so we opted not to get into contact with them. That’s how we overcame them," said captain Marvel Laura. "We thank God for the win. We now shift focus on Western Spears, whom we play next.”
