Kenya Lionesses start their hunt for a slot at next month's Paris Olympics with a tricky encounter against Samoa in the rugby Sevens repechage tournament in Monaco on Saturday.

Dennis Mwanja's charges are chasing a third consecutive appearance at the sport's biggest extravaganza.

Only one team of the 11-nation repechage will punch a ticket to Paris.

Lionesses were to face Papua New Guinea on Friday but the Pacific Islanders have withdrawn from the tournament leaving Pool 'A' with three teams.

Mwanja's side arrived in the principality on Monday and have had three days of light training, acclimatising to the weather and finalising their preparations for the tournament.

"The girls are in good spirits. They are ready and relishing the battle," said Mwanja.

The KCB assistant coach said they would take one match at a time.

“There is no margin for error. The girls know what's at stake. We have to start the tournament well," said Mwanja.

"We trained well in Miramas and at Kasarani, where we addressed some of the shortcomings we had at the Challenger tournament."

On Samoa, he added: “We know they are a physical side but our tempo will be key if we play an expansive game and win the battle in forward play. This will give us a good platform to win the match.”

Lionesses will then face Argentina in the final pool match at 7:44 pm in a repeat of the Challenger Sevens Series quarterfinal clash in Poland last month, where Kenya won 22-5.

Mwanja expects a tough battle from the South Americans.

"They will come hard at us but the girls are well prepared. We will stick to our game plan and execute well in attack and defence,” observed Mwanja.

They want to repay the support they received from the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya during the preparation phase.

“We have had good training camps and we would like to thank them for the opportunity to have the girls train in an elite environment," he said.

Mwanja recalled Japanese-based Grace Adhiambo and Janet Okello to add firepower and experience after finishing fifth overall in the Challenger Series, where the Lionesses missed out on the promotion playoffs in Madrid earlier this month
