The Bulldozers and Nairobi Lightning will represent Nairobi in the second edition of the Futures Cup.

The two teams, coached by former Kenya Simbas players Jacob Ojee and Oliver Mang’eni, were named by DBA Africa after the first Futures Cup event held at Kenton College, Kileleshwa on Sunday.

The Under-15 tournament is set to take place on July 12-14 at Peponi School.

The competition will also feature a girls’ category that will have four teams from Nairobi, Central, Western and Rift Valley regions.

DBA Africa founder, Storm Trentham, said she hopes the Futures Cup will act as a stepping stone for the Kenya U-15 in future.

“At the moment, DBA is technically not directly linked with the national age-grade program but ideally in the future, this will be where the Kenya U15 coach will scout from,” said Trentham.

“The Futures Cup which is like Kenya’s own Rosslyn Park tournament, should have the best U15 players in the country and within the 184 players, the national team coach should have an easy time picking the team,” she added.

The Futures Cup is DBA’s way of creating a pathway for U15 players in Kenya and Uganda to play rugby even outside their school set-up and represent their region and even get opportunities abroad.

Upon the completion of the tournament, a dream team will be named to proceed for a year-long training while touring Kenya as well as Uganda.
