Fresh from winning the Prescott Cup,  holders Upper Hill have set their sights on winning the Nairobi region Sevens crown next month.

Assistant coach Eustace Sifuna said the 15-10 win over Rift Valley Academy (RVA) last weekend has boosted their morale ahead of the shorter version of the game as well as this weekend's St Mary's Blackrock tournament.

“The boys are in good shape and we have a few days to celebrate the win. However, we know the Sevens qualifiers for Nairobi are around the corner and we must work hard to qualify for the National Championship,” added Sifuna

This was the school's fifth title in its history following wins in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

“It has been a tough year. We missed out on qualification to the national 15s event in April but the boys have bounced back in style by winning Prescott. We look forward to winning other competitions with this team,” the coach said.

Sifuna expects a stern test from the likes of Lenana, Nairobi School, Ofafa Jericho and Dagoretti in the Sevens tourney.

“Our competitors have already started the program for Seven but I know my boys are up to the task. We are ready for the battle,” said Sifuna.

The county qualifiers will start in the next fortnight and Sifuna believes there is adequate time to work on all facets of the team.  “I believe there is enough time to sort out our weak areas and be competitive."

Sifuna said the short-term target is to ensure his charges qualify for the East Africa Games slated for Uganda in August.

“Our goal is to be in Uganda for the East Africa Games which I believe is a reasonable target for the boys."
