A ruthless Kabras RFC outfit put Menengai Oilers to the sword to win the Dala Sevens title on Sunday in Kisumu.

It was a win of the bragging rights for the sugarmen, who won the  Rai derby with the two clubs under one sponsor.

Felix Ayange 's charges outscored the Nakuru-based side by four tries to one and captured their second tournament of the national sevens circuit after winning the Christie Sevens three weeks ago.

The Kakamega-based side built their team on defence and ruthlessness to exploit holes in attack.

It came as no surprise when Patrick Lumumba opened the scoring in the third minute for a 5-0 lead.

Kabras pinned Oilers in their half, allowing Kenya Under-20 player Jackson Siketa to touch down and convert his try for a 12-0 lead.

Oilers were reeling and with an injury to Timothy Okwemba, they could not cope with the physicality of Kabras — who grabbed a third try as Lumumba grabbed a brace to widen the gap to 17-0.

Oilers finished the half strongly with star winger  Beldad Ogeta beating three Kabras defenders but was tackled metres to the line as Kabras led 17-0 at the interval.

On resumption, Gibson Weru's charges came firing on all cylinders, putting Kabras under immense pressure.

Their efforts paid off as Kenya Sevens' Dennis Abukuse crossed the whitewash for an unconverted try to reduce the deficit to 17-5.

Their joy was short-lived. Siketa, who had an outstanding match scored his second to seal the match and send the hundreds of Kabras fans into a frenzy at the final whistle.

Kabras eliminated Quins  17-0 in the semifinals while Oilers saw off Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology 29-14.

Quins bounced back to win the bronze medal by edging  MMUST 24-19 in the third-place playoff.

Series defending champions KCB thrashed Nondies 31-0 to finish fifth.

Strathmore Leos bagged the Challenge trophy with a 24-10 win over Kabete Stallions while Homeboyz finished 13th overall after a 22-10 over Zetech University.
