KCB rugby strength and conditioning coach Mike Shamiah has left the club.

Shamiah's departure is the second this month following the exit of long-serving head coach Curtis Olago.

His final match was a memorable one as the bankers beat Menengai Oilers 29-7 to win the Kabeberi Sevens for the third year running on Sunday at the RFUEA ground.

This was a morale booster for the bankers after an underwhelming start to the campaign. KCB in a statement said: "This is not a goodbye; this is a thank you. Thank you for your guidance,  inspiration,  encouragement and for being there."

Shamiah has been at the den as the strength and conditioning coach since 2014. He has been in charge of general fitness, skill development and injury rehabilitation.

KCB Sevens coach Dennis Mwanja thanked Shamiah for his services and for being part of the title-winning team for the past decade.

“He has been very instrumental and has played vital roles across all our teams featuring in Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup as well as the Sevens Series. He has been immense and we wish him well in his future endeavours,” he added.

Mwanja hailed the win in the Kabeberi Sevens final that put the bankers in contention to win the Sevens circuit alongside log leaders Quins and Kabras with two rounds to go.

“Credit to the boys. We were motivated and determined to write the wrongs of the first three tournaments. We were up and down but this weekend everything clicked together."

The former Kenya Sevens forward believes the inclusion of new signings Floyd Wabwire and former Oilers duo of  Tyson Maina and Davis  Nyaundi has boosted their depth ahead of the final two tournaments in Mombasa and Nakuru.

"It's very encouraging. We have entered a critical phase with the travel factor and fatigue; so the more quality players you have, the better because it helps especially in the knockout rounds,” he added.

The series takes a one-week break and resumes with the Driftwood Sevens slated for September 7-8 with the final leg of the Prinsloo Sevens set for September 14-15.
