After an underwhelming campaign in Driftwood Sevens, Menengai Oilers coach Gibson Weru looks to end the National Sevens Series on a high note with Prinsloo Sevens set for this weekend in Nakuru.

The Nakuru-based outfit, who won the overall crown two years ago, had their worst performance of the series in Mombasa, where they finished a lowly ninth last weekend to end their hopes of winning the series.

The former Kenya Sevens playmaker said with the tournament being played at home, he expects the side to bounce back and rise to the occasion.

"It's one of the worst tournaments we have had in Mombasa in a very long time. We did not execute well in attack and defence and as you know, the margins in Sevens are small on the second day.  We re-ignited our quality and were able to bounce back and salvage pride,” added Weru.

The tactician hopes to have Kenya Sevens internationals John Okoth and Dennis Abukuse back in the final leg of the series.

"They have been in training after picking up minor injuries. We have two training sessions before we name the final 13 for the tournament,” he added.

Weru 's charges failed to qualify for the main cup quarters from Pool B,  losing to Nondies 12-7 and Daystar Falcons 19-17. They beat TUM Marines 38-7.

In the classification matches, they thrashed Kabete Stallions 26-0 and edged Mwamba 12-0 in the Challenge trophy final to finish ninth overall.

Oilers have been placed in tricky Pool 'A' where they face log leaders Quins, Zetech Oaks and Mombasa Sports Club.

Weru has asked his charges to be weary of the heat posed by the likes of Zetech and Mombasa.

“We learnt our lessons last weekend and we need to be at our best from the first match to the last and play to our strengths,” added Weru.

Weru has asked the Nakuru fans to turn up in large numbers to cheer the team over the two days. “It's a home tournament for us and I want the fans to come and cheer us to victory."
