Fresh from winning the National Sevens Circuit Kenya,  Harlequins have set their sights on upsetting the big guns at the Safari Sevens next month.

Head coach Paul Murunga believes his young charges have what it takes to cause ripples at the three-day tournament.

"We have shown our quality in the last six weeks of the circuit. We are playing superbly and we are relishing the battle. The boys are fearless," observed Murunga

The tactician expects some of his star names to be called up to Shujaa and Morans for the tourney but believes there is enough depth to craft a formidable team for the three-day tournament.

" I have always been a big believer in youth development and age-grade rugby and so the team we are going to assemble will be competitive,” added Murunga.

The former Kenya Sevens coach credited their success to former internationals Willy Ambaka and Patrice Agunda, who are part of the technical bench.

"Their experience playing for both the club and country helped our players. They brought in innovative ideas which the players absorbed."

"Ambaka also played a key role in our strength and conditioning which transformed our players' fitness in the series," he noted.

This was Murunga's third time to win the overall series after triumphs with Homeboyz in 2016 and 2018.

"The experience is vital. Having played a part in the success of Homeboyz helped me and the technical bench," noted Murunga.

Co-Captain Amon Wamalwa acknowledged that the team was confident-driven throughout the campaign and was not surprised when they ended their long wait for a title.

"We believed in ourselves. Our motto was ‘Believe you can do it'. The last time Quins won the circuit was in 2012 when many of us were still kids. I was 11 years old and in primary school back then. We worked hard, knowing that others would believe in us but most importantly, we believed in ourselves,” he added.

Murunga's thoughts now turned to the start of the 15s season with the Kenya Cup starting in November.

The Ngong reached the quarterfinals losing to Nondies “ The larger squad of players have started preparing for the Kenya Cup and we will be looking to go all the way and win the title
