Albert Njogu will spearhead Kenya's charge at the Rwanda Futures Tennis Open in Kigali this weekend.

Njogu, part of the Kenya Davis Cup team which finished third at the same venue in July, is optimistic about posting good results against some of the top players on the continent.

"I played in Rwanda during the Davis  Cup in July so am familiar with the surface. Am looking forward to the tournament and going on a deep run," observed Njogu.

He is joined by Kevin Cheruiyot, Brandon Sagala and Raymond Oduor as they hope to improve their rankings.

"It's an opportunity to improve our ranking and get as many points as possible in upcoming tournaments," said Njogu.

The tournament will aid their preparations for next year's Davis Cup.

"I believe we need to play more tournaments to give ourselves a fighting chance against the top teams on the continent," said Njogu.

Tennis Kenya Executive Officer Nancy Nduku expects the likes of Sagala and Oduor to be tested accordingly, especially after graduating to the senior ranks.

"They are playing against senior players now and this is where they will be tested accordingly. We hope they will grow into the game," said Nduku.

The tournament's top players include top seed Oliver Crawford of Great Britain, Filip Christian of Romania, Max Houkes of the Netherlands and Benjamin Lock of Zimbabwe.

Elsewhere, the second edition of the Ferdinand  Omanyala 10s tennis tournament will be held on September 28 at the Nairobi Club.

The one-day tournament will feature four categories boys' and girls' six and under, eight and under, under 10 (Orange) and the under 10 (Green).
