Quins duo of Leonard Fogang and David Williams have been called up to the national team's provisional squad ahead of the Safari Sevens on October 11-13 at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

The duo were in fine form as the Ngong Road outfit ended a 12-year  national Sevens circuit title drought.

They won the series with 110 points as Kabras and KCB finished second and third respectively.

Other new faces in the national team include Kabras' pair of Patrick Lumumba and Kenya under 20 sensation Jackson  Siketa.

Strathmore Leos, who bagged the Prinsloo Sevens and finished fifth overall with 78 points, have provided Collins Maina and Elton Amalemba.

Mike Wekesa and Brian Ondego from Zetch University cut the team alongside Nakuru's Felix Okoth and Phillip Okeyo.

Arnold Ogonda and Augustine Owino represent Daystar University.

The bulk of the team that did duty during the Challenger Sevens Series and graced the Olympics in Paris are retained, led by co-captains Vincent Onyala and Tony Omondi, speed merchant Patrick Odongo, half-backs Samuel Asati and Brian Tanga and George Ooro of Strathmore.

Speaking Wednesday, assistant coach Louis Kisia said the 36-man team, who reported to training on Monday, will be whittled down to 26 for both Shujaa and Morans with nine players missing the three-day tournament.

From the final 26, Kisia said, they will pick the team for the World Sevens Series, which starts in Dubai in December.

With a fortnight to go to the Safari, the Impala tactician said he expects intense competition for places in the two teams.

“These players were outstanding during the circuit and will have to replicate that form in training,” noted Kisia.

"By Shujaa being the defending champions, we must have a strong team. It will be a blend of youth and experience which can go all the way and retain the title."
