Shujaa’s head coach Kevin Wam- bua has asked his charges to be ruthless ahead of the third leg of the World Seven Series leg in Perth Australia in January.

Wambua’s charges lie ninth on the log with 11 points after finishing seventh in the Cape Town tournament over the weekend.

The Mwamba RFC tactician believes a ruthless edge is needed in the Sevens game, especially, when Kenya is dominating matches.

“I want us to be sharp and take our opportunities.

“ If you look at the matches we lost, their margin was between seven points to 14 points.

“This was due to some small errors here and there and I believe when we go back to the drawing board, we will improve in those facets of play and finish higher than we did in Cape Town,” Wambua said.

He added: “Our decision-making will have to be sharper. There were instances when we made the wrong option but we look forward to going back to drawing to rectify those areas and be in good shape by the time we head to the new year,” Wambua said.

Co-captain Samuel Asati believes the best is yet to come from Shujaa and expects the team to be competitive in the new year.

“For most of us, we are playing in the circuit for the very first time. We know the rigors of elite Sevens rugby and we can only get better in the new year with the help of the coaching team. We aim to be consistent for the remainder of the circuit.”

The KCB playmaker said the return of co-captain Tony Omondi to the side was an asset.

“ He brings leadership and experience to the side and his ability to successfully convert tries from difficult angles is big for the team.”

Kenya had mixed fortunes in the Mother City, beating Australia 19-12 before a 14-7 loss to Spain in the pool stage locked them out of the semifinals.

In the fifth-place playoff, Kenya came unstuck against Argentina, going down 26-14 before bouncing back to thrash Great Britain 32-17.

The team returned to the country on Monday evening and will take a 10-day rest and recovery break.

Shujaa will resume training on December 19 before breaking off for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
