The passage of the law to professionalize Public Relations in the country is the top priority for the recently elected officials of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK).
The proposed law has been gathering dust at the August House since 2021 when the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs set in motion measures to secure Cabinet approval.
The legislation of the Institute of Public Relations and Communication Management policy and Bill is expected to grow and regulate the sector
The proposed law, among other things, intends to provide society with the policy and legal framework to enforce professional ethics and standards in the practice of Public Relations and Communication Management.
Patricia Ndede, who was re-elected as the lobby's Vice-president at the lobby's Annual General Meeting says that the law also seeks to establish the Public Relations and Communication Management Professionals Examinations Board and make provisions for the promotion, setting of standards and regulation of the practice of PRCM in Kenya.
"I will work closely with the PRSK leadership and members in the actualization of the IPRAC Bill and spearhead other initiatives that will grow our society,'' Ndede said.
Insurance Regulatory Authority’s (IRA) Noella Mutanda vied unopposed to retain the secretary-general position while the assistant treasurer position was won by Samuel Mutahi from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
Jesse Masai, Lydia Rosasi and Edward Wanyonyi were elected as Council Members respectively.
Speaking during the meeting that was held in Nairobi, the President, Arik Karani congratulated officials, saying he is confident that their dedication and expertise will be instrumental in driving our organization's mission.
The newly elected leaders will be joining other Council members, Arik Karani (president) treasurer (Samuel Karanja) and Vivienne Atieno, assistant secretary.
It is expected that the leadership will support the current CEO, Sylvia Mwichuli, to roll out the certification Programme in September, which will be offered in partnership with Daystar University and KASNEB.
