ISACA Kenya chapter Scratch and Script, ABI secure grant for TVETs in the country

Grant aims to advance technical skills in cybersecurity, data protection and artificial Intelligence

ISACA Kenya Chapter, in collaboration with Scratch and Script Company Limited and the Africa Blockchain Institute (ABI), have secured a grant under the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) programme.

The grant, supporting the IGNITE Program (Inspiring Growth and Nurturing Innovation through Technology Empowerment), aims to advance technical skills in cybersecurity, data protection, blockchain technologies, and artificial Intelligence (AI) across Kenyan TVET institutions.

The 18 months IGNITE Program, will work with three Kenyan  Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions, 250 recent graduates and 20 instructors from TVET institutions across Nairobi, Western and Mombasa region.

The SIFA Grant, funded by AUDANEPAD, the African Union’s technical body, with backing from the German Government and the European Union through KfW Development Bank, is valued at EUR 359,640 (Sh49.3 million).

As the lead partner, ISACA Kenya Chapter has committed Euro15,000 (Sh2.1 million) to the project, in addition will provide coordination of the project and spearhead partnerships with employers.

“We are excited to be at the forefront of a transformative project that will shape Kenya’s future in the digital economy,” ISACA Kenya Chapter president, Mercy Omollo, said.

“Our collaboration with Scratch and Script Company and the Africa Blockchain Institute strengthens our capability to operate in powerful consortiums, paving the way for future partnerships and growth.”

Scratch and Script has committed Euro15,000 to the project and in addition, will provide the technical infrastructure for delivery.

“TVETs are often underrepresented in the skills development sector, despite their crucial role in preparing young people for the workforce. At Scratch and Script, we recognise this gap and are committed to being part of the solution,” said Brencil Kaimba, Senior vice president of product strategy at Scratch and Script.
