Students of Bukembe Boys High School in Kanduyi constituency, Bungoma county, on Monday night razed a dormitory as they protested against their entertainment schedule.
Three other schools in the region have sent students home after destroying property.
They are Chesamisi High, Kimilili Boys and Khasoko where students went on the rampage.
The Kilimanjaro dormitory that hosts 112 students was set ablaze at 8:30pm when students were attending their evening preps.
No student was hurt in the fire that burned all of the students' belongings.
One Form Four student said he was in class during preps when the electricity went off.
"When the lights were cut off, we began to hear some noises from some students who were running up and down before they began throwing stones and breaking window panes of classes and dorms," said the student.
He said he heard a loud bang coming from the dormitory section and when students rushed they found the dormitory was on fire.
"We tried to put the fire off using water, sand and twigs but it overpowered us and we stepped aside and watched as everything went down on fire," he said.
Another student who spoke to the Star said students were up in arms, accusing the principal of refusing to listen to their grievances.
"On Saturday we are usually given two televisions and a full music theater system for our entertainment but last Saturday we were only given one small television something that did not go well with us," said one student.
The student went ahead to say that they had requested the principal to reschedule the entertainment time from Saturday at 6pm to 9pm and to Saturday 1pm to 11pm.
Moses Simiyu, an alumnus, said that the incident was uncalled for and asked students to engage in dialogue as a way of solving issues, instead of resorting to uncouth behaviour.
"When I was a student here, we would carry ourselves with decorum and not engage in such ugly incidents," he said.
He called for discipline.
"It's the parents who will suffer most by being forced to pay damages yet they work hard to get fees, I want to call upon our students to ensure they have discipline that is key to a successful life," he said.
