Police in Migori have launched investigations into the death of a Form 4 girl whose badly mutilated body was found in a thicket at Puche village.
The body of Melvin Adhiambo, 21, a student at St Sabianas Owich Secondary School was discovered on Tuesday evening while that of her boyfriend who had reportedly committed suicide using a sisal rope, was found the following day, only 5o metres from hers.
Nyatike Deputy County Commissioner Paul Langat said Adhiambo’s body was discovered in a thicket by a woman who was out fetching firewood.
Police identified the boyfriend as Evans Ouma, 26. The two lovebirds were reported missing on Monday when they were last seen together.
Langat said after the student’s body was discovered and the matter reported to police, the boyfriend was found dead in an abandoned house.
Police reports indicated that the mutilated body of the student had burn wounds and bruises on the face, hands, stomach and legs.
Nyatike subcounty police commander Stella Too said investigations are on-going to unravel the causes of the deaths and whether the two incidences have any connection.
"Villagers are saying that the two were in a relationship, we have started investigations on why they disappeared on the same day and the main cause of death,” Too said.
The bodies are at Migori county referral hospital's morgue for post mortem examinations.
The deaths come even as Migori police on Wednesday arrested a Form 2 student over the murder of his girlfriend, a class six pupil, following a relationship disagreement.

“The deceased is a class six girl aged 15 years and a student at a local private primary school. The two might have spent the night at the suspect’s house when the incident happened,” Kirengo assistant chief Fred Opiyo told the Star.
He said the body of the girl was found about 100 metres from the deceased’s home with a deep cut on the head after they were alerted by villagers.
“The suspect fled to his aunt’s homestead where he was arrested by the family and brought to the police station,” Opiyo said.
Villagers said they were shocked by the death especially as schools had re-opened.
The body was taken to Migori Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations as the minor is expected to be charged.
