Political fireworks are expected in Siaya as the Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga tours the county today.
Raila's visit comes at a time when the political rift between Siaya Governor James Orengo and his deputy William Oduol continues to widen.
ODM through its Secretary for Political Affairs Opiyo Wandayi on Monday evening urged Oduol to resign owing to the "irreparably broken" relationship between him and his boss.
Raila's tour comes just a few days after he met Orengo in Nairobi. Orengo is a long-time friend of Raila since their days in the trenches during the Kanu era.
According to a statement by Orengo's press director Benjamin Agina, Raila will visit Nyadorera (Usonga ward) to distribute foodstuffs to families affected by the recent bursting of a section of Lake Kanyaboli's retention dyke.
Nyadorera is a stone's throw from Oduol's home, which lies on the shores of Lake Kanyaboli.
Last week, the dyke broke, leading to the loss of water from the second largest ox-bow lake in Africa.
The breaking of the dyke led to flooding downstream as far as the neighbouring Busia county.
Afterward, Raila will be at Wagai Resource Centre in Gem constituency for a meeting with Community Health Volunteers.
The choice of Gem is also suspect owing to the fact that Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo faulted the Siaya MCAs for being used by external forces to gloss over "tangible evidence of corruption and mismanagement that Oduol had presented to them."
Shortly after the MCAs trashed Oduol's evidence and initiated an impeachment process, Elisha claimed that the ward reps had been influenced by an external force.
East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguru, a fierce Orengo apologist has since given a notice of impeaching Oduol.
Elisha is one of the legislators from Nyanza who have vowed to work with President William Ruto.
Speaking in his constituency on Monday, Elisha said that plans were underway to have President Ruto tour the area before the end of the year to bring development.
