The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will transform the lives of the youth in Homa Bay, the county party youth league leadership has said.
They said the youth offices which they will open at the ward, constituency and county level will prioritise hiring youths to work in them.
Homa Bay youth league Chairman Kevin Ouma, Secretary Wayn Odote, Assistant Coordinator Kennedy Ongati and Organizing Secretary Evans Oloo said the youth also have the advantage of getting state jobs.
Ouma argued that as leaders they have continued to present Homa Bay youth's issues to the party national office to enable them addressed for their benefit.
“UDA was formed with the sole agenda of transforming lives and developing the youth. As leaders we’re prioritizing your interests in the national office and government,” Ouma said.
Speaking during recruitment and election of UDA officials in the Ndhiwa constituency on Saturday, the youth leaders asked members to focus on making the party vibrant in the area and avoid any form of violence.
They called for political tolerance as they put structures for strengthening the party in Homa Bay which is considered a stronghold of ODM.
Ouma said they will win the hearts of many people in the party should they focus on the transformative agenda of UDA.
“Everybody has a democratic right to join a party of their choice but I tell youths that UDA is the ruling party with transformative agenda. Let Homa Bay youths be the change agent as they popularize the party,” he added.
Ongati said there is a need for respect between supporters of UDA and ODM in Homa Bay County.
He argued that the multiparty democracy which is enshrined in the constitution should be respected to enhance peace and tranquillity in Homa Bay.
Both ODM and UDA are undertaking their political activities such as grass-root mobilization in Homa Bay. Sometimes youths from both parties clash.
But Ongati asked UDA members not to confront ODM supporters whenever they undertake their activities.
“Let’s set our eyes on the development that UDA wants for the youth. The bottom-up principle will be actualized if we avoid unnecessary confrontation with colleagues in other political parties,” Ongati said.
Odote said they are committed to recruiting at least 300,000 UDA members in the county by 2027.
The county had more than 510, 000 registered voters by August last year.
He said they are undertaking membership registration to enable UDA to become vibrant in Homa Bay.
“We’re also focusing on bringing numbers to UDA ahead of 2027. Politics is about numbers as this is where the party vigour lies,” Odote said.
During the election, Samuel Omondi was elected the UDA youth league Chairman in Ndhiwa Constituency.
Those elected ward chairmen included Dancun Opande (Kanyikela ward), Fredrick Ochieng (Kanyadoto), Sam Aludo (Kanyamwa Kosewe), Agayi Benard (North Kabuoch), Samuel Ogutu (Kanyamwa Kologi), Benard Nyagudi (Kwabwai) and Samuel Owuor (South Kabuoch) among other officials.
Omondi promised to augment UDA registration in the constituency.
“I am going to focus a lot on the party registration in Ndhiwa,” Omondi said.
