Homa Bay residents have given mixed reactions after President William Ruto fired all cabinet secretaries on Thursday.
The residents argued that the dissolution was long overdue.
David Kajol, Dan Onditi, George Ramogi and Walter Owawa supported the move saying President Ruto should appoint professionals capable of transforming the country's economy.
Kajol appealed to President Ruto not to appoint persons with vested political interests.
“The move by President Ruto is commendable and he should consult widely before constituting a new cabinet. Kenyans want CSs who can deliver not personal friends,” Kajol said.
Speaking to journalists in Homa Bay town, the residents urged the president to move further and also fire Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Ramogi said the position Mudavadi is holding is not constitutional, adding that protesting Gen Zs had demanded it be abolished.
He argued that such positions increase the country’s wage bill and recurrent expenditure.
“We’re saying that it’s important for the government to reduce unnecessary spending. MPs salaries should as well be reduced to enable the country to focus on development,” Ramogi said.
Onditi wants President Ruto's administration to lower the retirement age from 60 to 55 years.
“Elderly people are not productive. We want the law to be amended and allow people to retire at 55 years,” Onditi said.
Activist Mark Okang described the move by President Ruto as not enough and urged him to dissolve parliament for them to seek a fresh mandate.
He argued that both the Executive and Legislature arms of government have failed Kenyans.
Okang said Gen Zs are protesting after the Executive and Parliament failed to address issues such as the high cost of living, corruption and high taxation on basic commodities.
“The Gen Zs are protesting against poor leadership by the president himself and MPs. Let President Ruto go ahead and dissolve parliament after the cabinet as Kenyans want,” Okang’ said.
