An MP from Kiambu has dismissed claims that the DCI has no capacity to investigate graft and is targetting certain ethnic groups.

Limuru MP Peter Mwathi on Thursday urged leaders not to politicise the war on corruption by criticising the role of the DCI.

"I've heard people, including elected leaders, say the DCI should not investigate graft cases — that they should be investigated by other institutions," he said in Limuru town. Mwathi issued Sh17 million bursaries to students.

On Monday, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa said the EACC should investigate graft cases since it is facilitated financially and has professionals who investigate cases without omitting important details.

Ichung'wa added that EACC cannot be compromised since it was a commission, saying the DCI was being compromised.

Mwathi, however, said the DCI's role in investigating such crimes is provided for in the Constitution.

He said Kinoti has gotten enemies since he has declined to be compromised by individuals.

The other officials present include assistant county commissioners Mary Njuguna, Rupale Ole Rinyai, subcounty police commander Eunice Githure and CDF chairman Stephen Thiiru.

The legislator asked the constituents to pray for President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee government to win the war on corruption.

MPs and governors allied to DP William Ruto have accused state agencies of targetting leaders from Rift Valley in the war on corruption.
