Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is in a week-long to London, UK to attend the London-Sudan conference aimed at fostering peace in the war-torn Sudan.

Invited by the UK government, Mudavadi is set to present Kenya’s position on regional peace and security in the Greater Horn of Africa, with a focus on Sudan’s ongoing conflict.

Now in its third year, the war has resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions, including women and children.

A statement to newsrooms from his press service Director Jacob Ngetich states that Mudavadi is expected to reiterate Kenya’s commitment to a unified Sudan, support for a Sudanese-led political process, and rejection of military solutions to political disputes.

Kenya has remained at the forefront of diplomatic efforts, hosting both Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leaders, alongside political, civil, and community stakeholders, in its bid to bring an end to the conflict.

"He will also advocate for respect and working through African institutions established by member states, including IGAD, the African Union, EAC, and SADC among others for a peace process, and discourage members engaged in forum shopping opting to choose methods that suit their selfish interests rather than the common good," it states.

In addition to the conference, Mudavadi is leading a government delegation in finalising an agreement with UK Export Finance (UKEF) on financing terms for the 438-acre Nairobi Railway City mega project.

The deal marks a major step in infrastructure development under Kenya’s urban transformation agenda.

He will also oversee the finalisation of Kenya’s commitments related to the implementation of Nairobi Bus Rapid Transit Line 3.

This is in addition to Nairobi Commuter Rail Line 2 and Line 5, with formal announcements expected at the upcoming Government of Kenya/G7+ Transport Heads of Mission meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for April 28, 2025 and will be co-chaired with the British High Commission.

Kenya has been committed to resolving the conflict in Sudan through various initiatives.

President William Ruto recently urged warring parties in the conflict to engage in genuine and inclusive dialogue to achieve sustainable peace.

The President pointed out that a political crisis like the Sudan conflict should be resolved through dialogue and not military means.

He also called on external actors supporting the warring parties to refrain from actions that further endanger the lives and future of the Sudanese people.

“Only through collective commitment and decisive action can we help restore stability and hope for a peaceful future in Sudan,” he said.
