Following Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's defection to the United Democratic Alliance, the Jubilee Party county leadership has shown signs of endorsing county Senator Charles Kibiru as the party's next governor candidate.

This is after the party endorsed Kibiru as the party's national government project coordinator in the county as well as the party's county spokesperson.

The endorsement came despite the senator being an independent candidate in the 2017 senatorial race.

Also, Kibiru's endorsement was given a nod by three other county leaders -Kirinyaga Council of Elders, Maendeleo ya Wanawake, and Kiama kia maa.

County Jubilee Party chair Muriithi Kang'ara termed the move as political in a bid to maintain the popularity of the party in the county as well as ensure that the party's agenda is undertaken without hitches.

"The president can rest assured that Kirinyaga is appreciative of his commendable job in the county and that we are not a bunch of ingrates because of decisions made by a few in leaving the party that has continually fulfilled its election pledges,” Kang'ara said.

He said the leaders willing to abandon the party can do so at the detriment of their political careers as the party is still intact and popular. He said that it would not shy away from filling the positions they hold in the party as well as fielding candidates in all elective positions in next year's election.

"The arrow that flies by the night is returned in the same way it came. We are in a political season and the party needs to register progress. As such, we cannot mourn for those we lose, instead, we will go ahead in firing back by filling all vacant positions left."

Kang'ara added that they are confident that Kibiru is efficient and competent in monitoring all the projects being undertaken by President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration in the county.

"Having weighed the suitability of all county leaders, we settled on Kibiru to fill in the vacuum that was left by governor Waiguru who has since ditched the party."

"His responsibility from today henceforth will be to work with the party in ensuring that all national government projects across the county are running smoothly. He will also be a link between the national government and the county party members."

On his part, Kibiru gave an assurance that he would jealousy guard President Kenyatta's rich legacy by ensuring that development projects undertaken by the Jubilee government are on the right trajectory.

"Much as I was elected as an independent candidate, I fully support President Kenyatta 's administration and the very many transformative projects he has undertaken in our county."

"As of that, we the county residents shall remain forever grateful and supportive to his course until the very end."

Kibiru said that for now he shall remain independent and will not be decamping to any political outfit much as he shall serve his new duty.
