Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has said the upgrading of roads in the county will attract investors coming in to trade.
The World Bank-funded facelifts are ongoing in some towns in Kiambu county.
Nyoro said the roads upgrade in nearly all towns in the county will ease trading and communication.
He spoke at Kidfamaco in the outskirts of Kikuyu town on Tuesday when he commissioned the upgrading of 3.2km road into bitumen standards.
The governor said the road will open the region due to growth, expansion of businesses, access to schools and other institutions.
“We want to improve accessibility of one area to the other. Our traders incur high costs while transporting their products to the market," he said.
He said the road will cost Sh200 million through the Kenya Urban Support Programme.
The governor applauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for creating municipalities in some counties to get access World Bank assistance.
Kiambu benefitted with six municipalities which are Limuru, Kikuyu, Kiambu, Thika, Ruiru and Karuri.
Nyoro was accompanied by roads department officials, World Bank officials, as well as Kikuyu municipality officials.
He also said 350 street lights will be installed to boost security and improve trading at night.
The governor said better drainage systems will be constructed to help improve hygiene.
Residents praised the county for raising the standards of the towns.
Samuel Kirehu, a resident, said investors have started looking for areas to lease and market spaces for trading.
