Police in Murang’a have launched a manhunt for a 34-year-old man after a domestic quarrel with his partner led to the death of two children.

According to County Commander of Police Benjamin Kimwele, a domestic dispute started between Francis Njoroge and his 50 years old lover Mary Wanjiku at around 11 pm, prompting Wanjiku to flee to a neighbour’s home on Thursday night in Kamira village, Murang’a East sub-county.

Wanjiku left two of her grandchildren, Jeff Githiria and Chris Kuria, both aged nine, sleeping in her two-bedroomed iron-sheets walled house.

But at around 1.30 am, Wanjiku’s son Augustin Njoroge was called by another neighbour informing him that his mother’s house was on fire.

Njoroge rushed to the scene only to find the house engulfed by flames of fire. Efforts to put it out were fruitless.

“DCI officers rushed to the scene only to find the house already razed down and bodies of the two children burnt beyond recognition”.

Kimwele said the officers processed the scene before moving the bodies to Murang’a level five hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

The police boss confirmed that the suspect is still at large and that dragnets have been set for his apprehension.

“By the time the officers were getting to the scene, the suspect had already fled but we are confident that he will be arrested."
