A 36-year-old man was fined Sh40,000 by a Kenol court on Tuesday for theft of farm produce.
John Kariuki Ngang'a, appearing before Resident Magistrate Jackinda Renna, was found guilty of stealing 30 pineapples worth Sh3,000 and was fined Sh40, 000 or in default, served a six-month jail sentence.
According to the facts tabled by the prosecution, the accused had stolen 30 pineapples from Delmonte farm number 17 on December 2, 2024.
On the said night, the accused was accosted by the firm's security guards while stealing the pineapples and was arrested.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and, in mitigation, asked the court for leniency, saying that he was the sole breadwinner for his two children since his wife left him and that he was sorry and would not repeat the offence.
The accused was convicted on his own plea of guilt and fined Sh40, 000 or in default serve a six-month jail sentence with a right to appeal in 14 days if not satisfied with the judgment.
