
President William Ruto on Tuesday flagged off electrification materials including transformers and poles for connecting 627 households in Nyeri County to power.
President Ruto said that his government has set aside Sh850 million to connect 10000 new households to electricity in Nyeri County.
REREC has connected 164 households in Gikamba village, Kieni constituency, to electricity.
Earlier, the president flagged off the Last Mile
Connectivity Programme in Ng’arachi, Laikipia County, a critical initiative
aimed at expanding electricity access to households across the county.
The project, valued at Sh720 million, is jointly funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Union (EU), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the Government of Kenya (GoK).
With implementation spearheaded by Kenya Power and Lighting
Company (KPLC) and the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation
(REREC), this initiative will connect 4,000 households to the national grid,
improving livelihoods, boosting economic activities and enhancing access to
essential services.
