UDA supporters led by National Youth Leader Kariuki Ngunjiri drumming up support for party candidate Muchina Nyaga in Ol Kalou/HANDOUT
UDA is confident of clinching victory in the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, with the party's National Youth Leader Kariuki Ngunjiri expressing optimism that its candidate, Muchina Nyaga, enjoys overwhelming support among constituents.
Speaking after conducting what he described as an "awareness drill" across various parts of the constituency, Ngunjiri said the political mood on the ground strongly favours the ruling party candidate due to his development-oriented agenda and track record.
"I am confident that we will win this election. Muchina Nyaga has an impact advantage which he has effectively leveraged, and that gives him an upper hand over his competitors," said Ngunjiri.
He added that UDA's campaign is anchored on tangible achievements and practical solutions rather than political rhetoric.
"We are confident we will beat our opponents because we are better in action, agenda and strategy. This election is about reality on the ground and not slogans or chants," he stated.
According to Ngunjiri, support for the UDA candidate has continued to surge as residents increasingly appreciate ongoing development initiatives in the constituency.
"With very few campaign days remaining, the chances of our candidate have been rising sharply. People are seeing development happen in real time. Residents are being connected to electricity, the Lands office has now been devolved to Ol Kalou, a railway line that had stalled for 46 years is now operational, and infrastructure programmes are ongoing," he said.
Ngunjiri argued that such projects have strengthened public confidence in the government and diminished the opposition's influence in the race.
“Those who thought they would create euphoric narratives are in for a shock because this election will be decided by what candidates are capable of doing for the people," he noted.
He maintained that the by-election is largely a local affair and should not be viewed through the lens of national politics or the 2027 General Election.
"The political reality in Ol Kalou Constituency is not about rhetoric anymore. It is about who has a better plan and the capacity to offer solutions to the problems facing wananchi. This is neither about national politics nor 2027 politics; it is about the lives and livelihoods of the constituents," Ngunjiri said.
He cited Mirangine Ward as one of the areas where residents have directly benefited from government programmes.
"In Mirangine, an entire village has received last-mile electricity connectivity. The residents can feel the impact of government, they are happy, and they have developed trust in action-oriented politics," he said.
The Ol Kalou by-election is expected to attract significant political interest, with parties intensifying campaigns as the race enters its final stretch.
