Tourism PS John Ololtuaa has attributed Kenya's tourism boost to President William Ruto's recent international state visits.

He said there is a noticeable increase in the number of tourists due to the President's efforts in promoting the country overseas.

"Kenya is known all the world over because our President has effectively marketed the country abroad," he said.

His statement comes amid criticism from Kenyans regarding the President's frequent foreign trips.

Ololtuaa urged Kenyans to continue fostering peace and national cohesion as they are crucial to the growth of the tourism industry and other sectors.

He spoke during a beach cleanup drive at Kongo Mosque in Diani, Kwale county, on Wednesday.

The PS said there are plans to collaborate with the county government to develop the Map of Africa in Tiwi, Matuga subcounty.

The Map of Africa is a natural formation that resembles the geographical outline of the African continent when viewed from an elevated position.

It is located along the coastline near Tiwi Beach, which is renowned for its scenic beauty and tranquil environment.

Tourists often visit this spot to admire the unique rock formations and enjoy panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.

Ololtuaa said through the support of residents and partnerships between national and county governments, they aim to develop infrastructure and amenities around the Map of Africa site to enhance its appeal to visitors.

He said the initiative is part of the broader tourism strategies to promote Kwale county as a destination rich in natural wonders and cultural heritage.

"The map of Africa is gold and has the potential to contribute to the economic growth of Kwale," the PS said.

Ololtuaa said the government wants to establish a beach operators' market in the coastal region and respective authorities are working on the designs.

The programme will bring together beach operators and work under a similar code of conduct.

Other initiatives in the pipeline include installation of streetlights, construction of beach access roads and enhancing of overall road infrastructure along Diani Beach.

Kwale tourism executive Michael Mutua welcomed the national government's support in promoting the sector.

He said the county government has made great strides in improving tourism through infrastructure development.

Mutua said the county is looking forward to introducing and passing a beach management bill to ensure collective management of Kwale beaches and environment for better tourism and livelihood activities.
