Mining and Blue Economy CS Hassan Joho

Nominated Senator Miraj Abdillahi has accused Mining CS Hassan Joho of failing to be proactive in solving the problems of Kisauni and Mombasa residents at large when he was in power in Mombasa.

Speaking at SwahiliPot FM in Mombasa during a sports talk show on Saturday after she launched her Mama Haki Football tournament in Likoni, Abdillahi said the biggest problem in Mombasa is land grabbing.

She said it is ironical that the former Mombasa governor would ask Kisauni residents to tell him their problems so he could relay them to the President for resolution.

This comes after Joho, who launched the Kidongo fish landing site in Majaoni, Kisauni on November 11, said he now attends Cabinet meetings and is close to the country’s most powerful man.

Joho asked Majaoni residents to tell him what ails them so he could see how he can help them now that he is in President William Ruto’s administration.

This did not go down well with Senator Abdillahi, who said Joho knows exactly what ails Majaoni residents because he has been their MP for more than five years and later their governor for 10 years.

“Do you want to tell me that Hassan Ali Joho, who was Kisauni MP, then became Transport assistant minister, then became the pioneer governor for 10 years, does not know that people in Kashani have land problems that he asks residents to tell him their problems?” she posed.

Abdillahi said the land grab is the cause of insecurity and drug abuse in Mombasa.

Playgrounds that used to keep youth busy have been grabbed.

She said the problems facing Mombasa will not be solved until Mombasa residents acknowledge that there is a problem and they confront those causing the problems because they are known.

“I know there is a problem. I know who causes these problems. But I cannot fight alone. They are too powerful,” she said.

She called on leaders in the county to be responsible and serve the residents the way they are supposed to be served.

She said leaders are not doing enough to try to solve the Mombasa people’s problems.

“Power is transient. Today we are here, tomorrow we will not be. So, let us do things that even when we leave power, we will not cry wolf over things we had an opportunity to tackle,” she said.

In response, Joho said everyone can see what he did in Mombasa to solve the complex land issues.

The CS said his administration pushed for the Waitiki land in Likoni to be given to locals occupying it.

He said he did what he could humanly do to solve the Mombasa land problems.
