Governor Wavinya Ndeti has issued a stern warning to drug peddlers in Machakos County.

Ndeti said drugs and substance abuse menace is a big problem in the county, especially among the youth.

She said her administration won't allow such criminals to continue with the illicit trade in the county.

"Those selling to our children drugs in Machakos County, you should know that your days are numbered," Ndeti said.

The county CEO spoke during a fundraiser at Mary Mount Catholic Parish at Daystar in Mavoko subcounty on Sunday.  She said the peddlers targeted school-going children.

"We can't continue having our children dying because of drugs. If you sell narcotics to other people's children, know that even yours will be sold to drugs," Ndeti said.

"It will happen, and we have seen it in life. If you do wrong to others, know that the same will be done to you."

Ndeti urged leaders and the entire society not to condemn children on drugs, but instead counsel them.

On the current political stalemate in the country, Ndeti called for a dialogue between President William Ruto and Azimio leaders led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

"Mimi sikatai maandamano. Lakini tukifanya maandamano, tufanye kwa amani," Ndeti said.

She said her concerns were the destruction of property and deaths experienced during the recent antigovernmental demonstrations conducted by the opposition across the country.

Citing the vandalised Nairobi Expressway, and Kitengela's assistant county commissioner's office among other properties, Ndeti said the leaders should reach out to each other, talk for the country to remain peaceful.

"If we destroy our property, it's us who suffer. Life is hard, but if we continue destroying our property, we even make it harder," she said.

"Let the demonstrations be peaceful in case they will be there. Talking is important, our leaders should sit down and talk.

"If I say our leaders should dialogue, some people condemn me. Let me tell you, at the end of the day, they will sit down and talk. So, the earlier they talk, the better," Ndeti said.
