The long-awaited rollout of the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system is now officially underway.

Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo announced Tuesday a mandatory supplier registration ahead of its full implementation beginning July 1.

According to Kiptoo, the system to be implemented across all procuring entities in both national and county governments marks a major step in public finance management reforms.

It aligns with President William Ruto’s directive during his State of the Nation Address on November 21, 2024, mandating the Treasury to launch the e-GP system by the first quarter of 2025.

“The National Treasury has been dragging its feet in the implementation of an e-procurement system for nearly 10 years,” he said.

The e-GP system, which is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve transparency in government procurement was set to be implemented in March this year.

However, budget constraints delayed its rollout, prompting Treasury to seek additional funding.

Treasury is spending up to Sh560 million to complete the digitisation process of the system as part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-backed reforms to secure transparency and efficiency in government contracting.

The new system, Kiptoo said, is expected to reduce costs of goods, services, and works, increase transparency and accountability in procurement and minimize procurement cycle times.

It also helps to standardize procurement processes across government entities and enhance procurement planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

In the notice dated April 1, 2025, PS Kiptoo said that suppliers, contractors, and consultants must self-register on the e-GP portal at www.egpkenya.go.ke.

Those facing challenges, he said, can seek assistance by contacting the support team via email at [email protected] or by calling +254 (020) 3341030/3340400/3340433.

However, those within Nairobi are required to visit the e-GP office at the Treasury Building, 6th Floor, Room 622, between 9am and 4pm.

Additionally, the PS said it has set up desks in all Huduma Centres to provide registration support during working hours.

“Supplier Registration Module Manual is available on the e-GP portal to guide users through the process,” he stated.

To facilitate a smooth transition, Treasury said it will hold weekly supplier registration webinars every Thursday from April 10 to May 30, 2025.

Suppliers are required to register for the training through links provided on the e-GP portal with only those who have registered being invited to participate in the webinars.
