Sevens champions, Friends School Bwake are looking to dominate the national rugby scene with sights firmly focused on the 15’s title during Term One Brookside Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Games in Mombasa next week.

The school’s director of rugby, Ben Amboko, said they will be going for the 15s title when the nationals kick off on Tuesday at Shimo La Tewa High School and Shanzu Teachers Training College.

“We are not taking any chances. Our target is to hold both the 15’s and 7’s titles. We have prepared well and we are ready for the battle ahead. We expect a tough but good competition at the nationals,” said Amboko.

Bwake are placed in Pool B’ together with Nyanza champions Kisii School, Western region champions Vihiga Boys and Coast winners Marafa Boys.

Pool ‘A’ features national 15’s champions All Saints Embu, Mang’u High, Serani Boys and Upper Hill School.

“Ours is the ‘pool of death’ and I am sure those who will emerge top from here will be in the final. We have played against Vihiga and I believe we are at par with them,” he added.

He said they will not underrate Kisii School and Marafa Boys.

“We know what we expect from Kisii School and we can not equally underrate Marafa, who are the Coast Region champions,” noted Amboko, former chairman and coach of Kitale RFC.

During last year’s rugby 7’s national final, Bwake beat Vihiga 19-14 to lift the title.

Vihiga exacted revenge at the East Africa champion ships, winning the regional title after a 26-0 win over Bwake. He said the team would go out guns blazing in Mombasa.

“This is a resilient and hardworking team,” he revealed.
