Kisii School coach Edwin Morara is confident about lifting the Nyanza Secondary Schools rugby 15s title for the third year in a row.
Morara warned their opponents that they are ready to defend their title at the regional championships at St Joseph’s Rapogi, Migori county, on March 18 to 22.
Kisii School, however, face a Herculean task from powerhouses St Mary’s School Yala, Maseno School, and upcoming Friends’ School Anjego under veteran coach J.J Masime.
Having lost the titles to Kisii in the last two years, Maseno and Yala are expected to give the holders a run for their money.
Morara said: “I believe we have a better team than in the last two years. We target regional and national titles. We want to represent Kenya at the East Africa Games in Nakuru.”
Kisii School performed dismally at the nationals in the last two years due to stage fright, inexperience and underrating some teams.
“Kisii School is now a powerhouse in rugby in Nyanza and we want to continue with our dominance,” added Morara.
They beat Kibabii Boys 15- 13 to win the Kisii School Open Tournament and Morara said they are targeting two more tournaments before the schools’ calendar begins.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, will host the Kisii School Term One games from March 4 to 7, revealed the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary Geoffrey Nyantika.
In a circular from the county director Phillip Chirchir, all subcounties must conduct their championships by February 22. Term One games will feature hockey, basketball, rugby 15s, handball, swimming and athletics.
“Initially, we wanted to have the
games at Kisii School but they don’t
have a running track,” said Nyantika.
