All Machakos county
government staff will undergo skills audit to enhance service delivery,
Governor Wavinya Ndeti has said.
Ndeti directed the Public
Service department to initiate the skills audit process with immediate effect.
“I direct the Public
Service department to immediately initiate the skills audit process to all
county government staff. This will not only enhance service delivery, but also
help match each staff with relevant competencies,” Ndeti said.
Ndeti spoke after she
presided over the signing of performance contracts for her administration’s executive
committee members and chief officers at her office, White House, on Friday.
“I take this opportunity
to thank the secretariat and our advisory counsel for the dedication that you
have shown in Machakos and for the people of Machakos. Thank you very much, I
really appreciate,” Ndeti said.
She added, “Today marks
a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence in governance and
public service delivery. We have just signed our performance contracts, a
commitment to accountability and results that will guide our actions and
decisions in the coming months.”
The county boss said the
counsel’s dedication to public service and unwavering commitment to the
county’s progress were commendable.
“As we embark on this
annual contracting process, I want to emphasise that this isn’t merely a
formality. It’s a critical commitment to our people. We must strive for
performance based outcomes by reflect dedication in serving the citizens our
county,” Ndeti said.
She said her
administration would fast track promotions of county staff that had stagnated
in the same job groups for many years.
"Part of the
performance contracting is to ensure that staffs that have stagnated for many
years move upwards. All departments must undertake a skills audit for staff to
ensure they are placed in their areas of competency for maximum output,"
Ndeti said.
Noting that the county
was doing well at own source revenue generation, the governor said part of the
revenue would ring fence finance promotions and staff welfare.
Ndeti challenged the
chief officers to devote immense energy towards serving the residents and their
respective staff as they do in pursuing procurement assignments.
She maintained that
digitisation of revenue collection in her administration would be strengthened
to seal corruption loopholes and gaps.
Ndeti said Machakos
residents expect and deserve nothing less than excellence in service delivery.
“It’s our duty to meet
and exceed these expectations,” she said.
She thanked the Public
Service Department for their full involvement in the initiative led by the
devolution CEC.
“As we have signed these
contracts today, let us remember that they represent a promise to our citizens
that we will work diligently to achieve the goals that we have set forth,”
Ndeti said.
Ndeti expressed confidence
that with the dedication and hard work of the staff, the county will achieve
remarkable results in the coming months.
“Together, we will build
a county that is not only efficient and effective, but also responsive to the
needs of our people.”
She said they had worked
and are still working hard against negativity among some individuals including
those in and out of her administration.
