As Kenyans celebrate the festive season, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured the public of their safety, highlighting the country's progress in maintaining peace and security.
Murkomen reassured the public that their safety was guaranteed.
"I want to assure the people of Kenya that their security is guaranteed, even as they go about their holiday business. Our security teams have done their very best to ensure your safety," he said.
The CS also highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport to facilitate smooth travel across the country during this busy period.
"We are working together to ensure that movement is secure and efficient. What I request from Kenyans is maximum support. Let us all behave responsibly and celebrate within the confines of the law," he urged.
Murkomen reminded the public that responsible behaviour, especially on the roads, is crucial in reducing traffic accidents.
He attributed some of the traffic congestion to reckless driving, stressing the importance of abiding by traffic laws.
"We will take tough measures against individuals who break the law. We must all contribute to the betterment of our country," he warned.
He was speaking in Muhoroni in Kisumu county where he was accompanied by the PS Interior Raymond Omollo during a wedding event.
The CS also took the opportunity to thank the people of Kenya for keeping peace during this festive season.
"Your resilience in living together and pursuing the best interests of our nation is commendable," he said.
The CS shared positive reports from the leadership of Kericho and Kisumu counties, where efforts to foster peaceful coexistence have led to a significant decline in community conflicts.
“Even in instances where there have been isolated cases, they are few and far between. We are making great strides in bringing communities together,” he added.
He emphasized the importance of unity, stating "As a country, we cannot progress if we do not live together in peace. The President has shown that he can ensure communities and the government represent the face of Kenya."
He concluded by assuring the nation that the fundamentals of security and peace in Kenya are firm.
"As we approach the new year, we are confident that we will continue to move to greater heights, working in a coordinated manner to ensure the safety and well-being of our nation," he said.
