The three were killed in botched robbery incidents
In Summary
Three suspected gangsters have been killed in two different incidents within Mlolongo Township in Athi River, Machakos County.
The trio is said to have attacked passersby on Mlolongo roads when they were subjected to mob injustice on Wednesday night.
Athi River East deputy subcounty police commander Joseph Okuna said the incidents were reported to the Mlolongo police station on Thursday.
“The three men were murdered in two different incidents within Mlolongo Township,” Okuna told the Star by phone on Thursday.
In the first incident, Okuna said, four people attacked a woman who was walking along the road in the Vietnam area within Mlolongo Township and robbed her of a mobile phone.
The incident, according to police, happened at 11.00 pm on Wednesday.
“The woman raised an alarm, attracting the attention of members of the public who immediately intervened and got hold of the two; two managed to escape,” Okuna said.
They were beaten to death by the mob.
The deceased persons were later identified as Brian Kilonzo, 18, with the second one only known by his nickname, Mdelo, 19.
The bodies were dumped near a river with multiple body injuries.
Officers from the Mlolongo police station responded to the scene, processed it, and moved the bodies to the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly City Mortuary.
The second incident, according to police, happened along Makanisani Road within Mlolongo Phase Three Estate at 7.00 am Thursday.
“Another young man attempted to snatch a phone from a passerby who raised alarm prompting members of the public to intervene. They beat him to death,” Okuna said.
Okuna said the man was later identified as Paul Okello, 18.
Officers from the Mlolongo police station removed the body to the same morgue.
The incident happened barely a week after two bodies were found lying along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in the Sabaki area, Athi River subcounty, on February 22, 2025.
The third man was found critically injured in what police termed a suspected attack following a clash between two rival groups.
The bodies were moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary, while the injured man was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The motorcycle he was using was completely burnt.
