A faction of Machakos County Assembly members, primarily from Maendeleo Party, has scoffed at an impending impeachment motion against Speaker Ann Kiusya, declaring it a futile endeavor.

The 23 MCAs, gathered at a city hotel, issued a bold challenge to their opponents, asserting that the motion will not succeed.

Kinanie MCA Francis Kavyu, speaking on behalf of the group, dismissed the opposition's claims of having the numbers to push through the impeachment.

"We saw them chest thumping that they have numbers... Let them bring it to the floor of the house; we will sweep them down," Kavyu declared, emphasising that a successful impeachment requires both substantial grounds and a majority vote

Kavyu questioned how the impeachment could possibly pass without reaching the necessary 45 votes.

The tension escalated as Mua MCA Francis Ngunga hinted at a potential counter-impeachment motion against members of the executive meddling with legislative affairs.

The MCA said the ouster plans go against an advice by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who cautioned against the impeachment.

In a call for unity, Mbiuni MCA Peter Kilonzo urged area Governor Wavinya Ndeti to collaborate with her deputy, Francis Mwangangi, who has been advocating for harmony among the ward representatives.

"We are grateful to Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi for always calling on us to fight on. We ask Wavinya to join her deputy in uniting the people," Kilonzo stated.

On Tuesday, a section of MCAs vowed not to relent in their move to impeach the speaker.

Led by Nicholas Nzioka Wangondi, the mover of the motion, the MCAs said their move has not been pushed by Wiper party nor by Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

Wangondi claimed that the move is non-political as it is pushed by MCAs from all parties including Wiper, GDDP, Maendeleo ChapChap, and even independent candidates.

As tensions rise and political allegiances are tested, the outcome of showdown remains uncertain, with both sides preparing for a battle that could reshape the future of governance in Machakos County.
