Two men charged for obtaining Sh2.6m by false pretence

Two men alleged to be directors of an interior design company have been charged with obtaining Sh2.6 million from a businessman by false pretences.

Zakayo Shem, and Alvin Ngala who masqueraded as directors of Officeplanet interior company Kenya, are accused that with intent to defraud, obtained Sh2.6 million from Nicholas Ombudo by falsely pretending that they can do him a full interior design of his building.

They also allegedly pretended to furnish a conference hall, fine dining hall, kitchen, stair, and all room fittings a fact they knew to be false.

They are said to have committed the offence on dates between November 2021 and February 2022 in Vihiga County.

Investigations revealed they conned Ombudo of his hard earned money after he contracted them for a full interior decor job in Vihiga county.

They are alleged to run a Facebook page where they pose as service providers and have been luring and conning out unsuspecting Kenyans.

Investigators believe that the con game is executed with cohorts who won workshops in Ngara, Nairobi, where the unsuspecting victims are lured to be shown samples of the works.

Police said the owners of these blacklist workshops share in the crime proceeds.

The officers added that there have been numerous complaints against the suspects who lure their victims through a Facebook page.

The page bears the images of Java restaurant which the suspects purport to have done interior decor for, although Java is known to have its own workmanship.

Shem also passes as entertainer with a stage name King Kombo.

The two denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of Sh70,000 each.

The case will be heard on May 11, 2022.

The prosecution has listed six witnesses to testify in the case.
