The Nairobi Green Army has come out to deny allegations that they are planning to hold demonstrations on August 7,  due to allegations of delayed salaries and lack of necessary amenities.

The group is responsible for cleaning estates and unclogging drainage systems in all 17 sub-counties of Nairobi.

Speaking at a press conference in Uhuru Park on Saturday, representatives of the group clarified that the claims are baseless and politically motivated.

Tausi Opati, a spokesperson for the Green Army, said they were concerned over the misinformation peddled about them.

"We are not planning to have demonstrations in Nairobi, nor are we protesting. Those who are saying the Green Army wants to demonstrate are not from our lot,"  Opati said.

Opati said that of over 3,500 members, none of them has taken part in the planning of alleged demos.

According to the group, a politician has been printing uniforms and hiring individuals to stage demonstrations in the capital.

The members emphasized their dedication to their work saying they will not be part of any planned protest.

The workers said a group of politicians seeking to settle political scores against the governor are behind the scheme to sponsor the demonstrations.

"We condemn this move and we are asking the Governor and the authorities to investigate these claims," said Collins Ochieng, another representative.

While the Green Army denied any involvement in the planned demonstrations, they did express their grievances about the aftermath of recent Genz demonstrations in Nairobi.

They noted that these protests left many streets littered with stones and debris, significantly increasing their workload.

"We urge those who want to demonstrate to be moderate," Opati continued.

"Demonstrating is one thing and causing chaos is another. We hope that when they feel the need to do so, they consider that we are left to clean up their mess."

They appealed to the public and authorities for support in maintaining cleanliness and order in Nairobi.

The Nairobi Green Army said they remain committed to their duties and hopes for a swift resolution to the current issues surrounding the alleged demonstrations.
