Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has launched six Grade nine classrooms at Moi Forces Academy, a move aimed at providing children with quality education, fostering national development, and nurturing the future of the nation's youth.
Speaking on Thursday during the event, Kipsang emphasised that education is the cornerstone of national development highlighting the critical role institutions like Moi Forces Academy played in nurturing the future of students.
“The partnership we see today in these classrooms is a testament to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Education and Kenya Defense Forces. The Ministry of Education will continue to support education by providing the necessary resources in terms of infrastructure and human capital together with our colleagues at the Teacher Service Commission (TSC),” he said.
“As Ministry of Education, once again I want to commit to ensuring every child has an equal opportunity to access relevant, inclusive, and quality education that equips them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and values to navigate the world which is getting increasingly complex and challenging,” he said.
He acknowledged the growing number of students, particularly in grades eight and nine, a trend that could pose a challenge in accommodating them saying that was why the ministry was already planning for that eventuality by committing to construct more classrooms.
“We have seen a significant enrolment growth, and we are working to ensure that we have enough classrooms for our students,” he said.
He emphasised that the government had distributed 9.9 million books to grade nine learners while ensuring students are well-prepared to transition to grade 10 under the new Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).
"We are fully committed to the implementation of the CBC education system, which equips students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in various fields,” he said.
Additionally, he said the ministry has developed guidelines for the placement of learners in grade 10 and was engaging with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition.
Kenya Air Force commander Fatuma Ahmed said the support from the Ministry of Education was a clear reflection of a strong, strategic relationship between the Ministry and the KDF.
“This support from the Ministry of Education is a manifestation of the cordial strategic relationship between the KDF and the Ministry of Education,” she said.
She emphasised the importance of education in shaping the future of the nation urging both students and staff to remain committed to their educational journey.
"I encourage the teachers, the non-teaching staff, and the learners to remain focused and take all education matters seriously," she said.
