Police officers in Lodwar town have seized bhang worth Sh50,000, which was bundled up as fish for transport to Kitale at one of the bus stations in the area.

Turkana county commissioner Julius Kavita praised the DCI and county police commander for their efforts. He, however, said the suspect escaped, leaving behind the motorcycle used for transport.

He emphasised a commitment to do a thorough inspection of packages for transport and issued a warning to those involved in illegal trade in Turkana that their days are numbered.

Authorities confiscated National Youth Service uniforms used by criminals impersonating police officers to rob residents, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing security in the area.

According to the county commissioner, the suspects escaped and investigations are being conducted to identify those involved in the illegal businesses in the county.

He said records on the package indicated the uniforms were destined for Turkana South, which meant they would have been used by criminals in the area to impersonate police officers, hence increasing insecurity.

Turkana county police commander Daniel Kinyua vowed to conduct patrols along the borders of Turkana as most of these illegal businesses are suspected to be sourced from the neighbouring countries.
