Governor Anyang' Nyong'o unveils Muhoroni as a town.

At least 1246 title deeds will be issued to four settlements in Muhoroni, which was on Friday unveiled as a town. Sh71 million has been set aside for infrastructure development.

Governor Anyang' Nyong'o said courtesy of a partnership between the county and Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project, four settlements have been planned, surveyed and land ownership regularised.

They include Bondeni, Shauri Moyo, Shauri Yako and Swahili.

Nyong’o said the second phase of the programme has been rolled out.

The settlements will benefit from infrastructural development including tarmac roads and drainage works to make the settlements functional-socially and economically.

“In this second phase, Muhoroni town has been allocated Sh71 million for infrastructure in the four settlement areas including roads and sewer services,” he said.

The governor said soon, a team of consultants will work with the beneficiary communities to agree on the designs for the said roads.

“This programme supplements my government’s efforts of delivering the much-needed services to the people,” Nyong'o said.

“In the concluding financial year, we appropriated Sh150 million for various services in Muhoroni.”

Nyong'o said Muhoroni town must benefit from other major infrastructure developments that are coming in the area and the region at large.

He said projects will help Muhoroni in terms of economy and an increase in urban population.

The projects are the revival of the Nairobi-Nakuru-Kisumu railway line, construction Muhoroni-Kipsitet-Miwani-Mamboleo road and spur roads of Muhoroni-Songhor, Koru, Miwani-Ombeyi-Ahero among others.

“It is on this backdrop that we are putting in place an urban institutional framework to ensure these development are well harnessed for the socio-economic well-being of our people,” he said.

The governor said operationalising Muhoroni town administration is in line with the Urban Areas and Cities Act 2011, which replaced the Local Government Act after the promulgation of the constitution.

“We are therefore ensuring that we comply with the laws of the land. Ours is to create a necessary institutional and infrastructural framework and invite the citizenry to support the town through business and investment,” he said.

“This, however, must be done in a manner that does not wreak havoc to the environmental resources such as River Nyando, which is an important source of water for the Kano plains.”

This journey began in March 2019 when the Nyong’o administration issued a gazette notice conferring town status on five urban centres namely Ahero, Katito, Kombewa, Maseno and Muhoroni.
